When I was six years old, my father gave me my very first camera. It was a simple point and shoot camera, but I loved it. I am passionate about photography ever since. In the neighborhood, I grew up in; I found my first models in deer, living in an enclosed terrain. It just happened to be that my older brother was in that time active at his school’s photo lab, which made getting films developed and images printed very convenient.
Years later, I found myself in the very same lab, learning to develop film and to print black and white photographs. Mr. Goblet, the teacher training pupils in the photo lab was my first mentor in photography. Together with a good friend, I learned the necessary skills and improved my skills.
Mr. Goblet helped Achim and me to produce our very own holograms with the school’s laser.
Even though I did not get the apprenticeship with a photographer, I was looking for; I kept my interest and passion for photography alive. I always found ways of incubating my interest while studying different subjects.
For a while, I worked as a freelancer for a local newspaper and fine-tuned my workflow from capture to print. We are still talking film here. Around that time, I started photographing my first weddings.
It took a few years of studying in other fields, my emigration to South Africa and work in different professions, when I finally decided in 2007 to start my own business as photographer.
I am not only passionate about photography, but also about learning and work continuously on expanding my current theoretical and practical knowledge of photography.
Quiet a while back, I made the switch to digital and love the speed of the process and the opportunities this still new technology offers me.
